Purpose of the Program

The purpose of the Interdisciplinary Program of the Foursite Film Festival is to provide university students with the opportunity to work with students from a variety of departments under the tutelage of professional filmmakers. Students will be able to work with one another in an extracurricular setting, giving them the experience they need to apply their skills in a professional film production setting.

The 2007-2008 Foursite Film Festival season marks the first that Foursite is taking on this new endeavor. In this first year, Foursite director, Scott Halford will be Executive Producer on the project. The project will incorporate the skills of Weber State University students in the Following Departments: Dance, Theater, Music, Technical Theater, Art, Multimedia, Cosmetology and Communications. After the film is completed, it will have its premiere in the Eccles Black Box Theater in The Browning Center at Weber State University. The premiere date is March 6, 2008.

In future years, the students and faculty at the university will be expected to form their own collaborations, at which point they will then apply to the festival for support under the guidelines and themes under the Foursite Film Festival Interdisciplinary Program.

After program Guidelines are more structured based on the experience of this first group of students, a formal program will be announced to the other universities in the state. This will make this program more available to all the universities in the state. We desire for this to be available to universities in Utah so that Foursite Film Festival resources can be made available to those Universities and Colleges that do not have formal film programs. Foursite resources will be made available to the students and will give them opportunities that would not otherwise be available.

As recurring funding for these student projects becomes available, Foursite will be able to offer these Interdisciplinary Projects with the budget to complete the projects. These budgets will include not only the completion of works, but a budget for entry fees to other festivals where further development deals can be pursued. Foursite will always be listed as the presenting company behind the films along with the universities being showcased. This will bring further attention to Utah’s film industry.
