The New Interdisciplinary Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Foursite Film Institute launches a new program aimed at uniting students and disciplines in a unique film project.

The Foursite Film Institute announces the launch of the Foursite Interdisciplinary Project (IDP).  The IDP program allows Foursite to partner with Weber State University students for its first collaborative effort. Students will unite from various departments, such as dance, communications, multi-media and visual arts. From concept to final cut, IDP students will work with professional filmmakers in learning the process and application of filmmaking.

“This is the first film project of its kind in Utah.  Many students have never considered or had the chance to apply their skills to film making. Not only does this broaden their education, but they’ll have a blast in the process,” Scott Halford, Foursite Institute Director said. “This program has the potential to revolutionize the way filmmaking is approached at the college level.”

The 2008 project involves more then ten students from five departments at Weber State. The group will collaborate to create a dance-for-camera project which can be likened to a music video but which shifts the emphasis away from the musical artist to the movement and choreography of the dancers. Production on the first ever Foursite Interdisciplinary Project will begin January 4, 2008. The complete short film is slated to premier March 6 at the Wildcat Theater at Weber State University as part of the Foursite Film Festival, which runs March 5-8, 2008.

In addition to its work with the IDP, the Foursite Institute will also be holding summer workshops for high school students. Participants will gain a big picture view of filmmaking, which includes pre-production, production, and post-production.
